The taoists of Antiquity have attributed an hexagram to each phase of the moon. These phases are fixed according to an ancient calendar which divides the year into periods of five days in harmony with the phases of the moon. The hexagrams are following each other according to a particular order which is that of the ascent of the Yin and the Yang, and are in direct relationship to the specific nature to each period.
