>> King Wen creates the 64 hexagrams

Towards the beginning of the second millennium BC, King Wen combined the trigrams two by two, in order to interpret the world from a more elaborate system of 64 hexagrams. At this time, King Wen controlled the West of the country. He was battling with the tyrant Chou Hsin, the last sovereign of Shang whose blackness of character was as large as the wisdom of Wen. Worrying about the growing reputation of Wen, Shou Sin attracted him to the capital and took him prisoner in 1143 BC.
